This was a complicated commercial roofing project—it consisted of a mix of old and new construction on an active college campus. Axiom was contracted to mechanically attach and adher a fully insulated TPO roof system to an existing roof structure after the existing roof was torn off.
Western Washington University had a huge list of do’s and don’ts for all contractors to keep campus disruptions to a bare minimum. The reroof of the original gymnasium was particularly challenging, it was steep, with complex slopes and access was limited.
This required the roofers to work tied off at all times using a fall restraint system. It slowed the process down but allowed the Bellingham Axiom roofing team to remain safe at all times while providing an exceptional looking roof.
The University required this project to be as environmentally friendly as possible, which meant that commonly used roofing adhesives were not allowed. Instead, Axiom had to use low VOC water based adhesive—which created challenges for adhering the membrane during the winter in the cold and wet Bellingham weather.
The project specifications called for a Carlisle TPO (thermoplastic polyolefin) membrane roofing system. It’s one of the most popular choices for commercial roofing membranes due to its industry-leading energy efficiency, long-lasting durability, and high reflectivity. The team at Axiom Division 7 is proud to be among Carlisle's most loyal and dedicated authorized applicators and is recognized as a Carlisle ESP (Excellence in Single Ply) contractor and a Carlisle Perfec10n (Perfect-10) contractor. These prestigious awards are reserved for the top 5% of all Carlisle approved contractors.
